Is your child going to school this September.

As I remember it, and it was a long time ago, the worst thing about the school summer holiday was just getting that feeling of freedom only to have it stolen from me by the ubiquitous Back To School posters adorning every shop even remotely connected with clothes, stationary and other school related paraphernalia. So it is with some guilt that I am about to launch into my own Back To School appeal.

Your child's eyes are amongst the most precious things they have, in my line of work I see many people who are not blessed with the gift of sight so I know how debilitating even slightly poor vision can be. It makes sense then to make sure that when your child is about to enter one of the most vision taxing times of their life, school, their eye sight is checked and their vision as good as possible. This especially important now that statuary vision screening at school is no longer done.

Older children too need to ensure they are visually equipped for the challenges ahead. It is surprising how often poor performance is related to uncorrected eye sight and a lack of ability to see the board. Bad behaviour is also sometimes caused by a child not being able to see properly leading to lack of concentration, boredom and ultimately poor behaviour. Spectacles are no longer the stigma they were when I was at school so parents can rest assured that teasing won't be an issue, in fact you would be surprised that some children ask for spectacles even if they have no visual problem.

Of course if your child does need glasses then protecting vulnerable eye is very important so it makes sense to provide them with the toughest lenses available.
