Among the thousands of runners who took part in this year’s London Marathon was Robert Frith’s granddaughter, Molly, who has clearly inherited our founder’s talent for running.
Robert was a world record-setting sprinter who, in later life, ran the London Marathon on behalf of Sightsavers. This international charity was created over 75 years ago to eliminate avoidable blindness and protect the sight of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.
Molly is currently a university student, but has worked for several of our practices during her holidays. She decided to follow in her grandfather’s footsteps by signing up to take on the gruelling 26.2-mile marathon course through the capital. Despite sustaining a shin injury during her training, Molly finished the race and raised over £4,300 (and counting) for Sightsavers in the process.
This amazing achievement has made her one of the most successful fundraisers for this inspiring charity. The money Molly raised could now go towards treating or protecting over 23,000 people from the infection trachoma, conducting over 130 adult cataract operations or screening over 80 school classes for a range of eye conditions.
