Around 20% of people experience visual stress, which can cause a range of frustrating symptoms. These may include blurred text, background colours or shapes appearing behind the words, or text that seems to wobble or flicker as you try to read. Individuals who have conditions like dyslexia, epilepsy, frequent migraines, or are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) may notice these symptoms more strongly than others.
To help address visual stress, our Yeovil practice now offers Visual Therapy. During your appointment, we'll start by conducting an assessment to understand your symptoms and measure your current reading speed and comfort. Next, we perform an overlay assessment to determine which colour filter feels most comfortable for you. We'll then reassess your symptoms and reading speed while using the preferred colour overlay.
The results help us determine the most effective solution for you, which could include coloured overlays, reading guides, or specially prescribed lenses—either prescription or non-prescription. Our goal is to improve your reading experience and reduce discomfort, allowing you to read more easily and comfortably.
